Bradford school stabbing: 14-year-old boy will plead not guilty to attempted murder


The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Bradford Youth Remand Court this morning and spoke only to confirm his name and address.


His lawyers indicated to magistrates that a not guilty plea would be entered to the charge of attempted murder. Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford


Sending him to a youth detention centre, chairman of the bench Gill Arnold said the defendant would next appear at Bradford Crown Court on 29 June.


He is also charged with possessing cannabis.


The boy was arrested on Thursday after Vincent Uzomah was stabbed at Dixons Kings Academy in the West Yorkshire city.


The 50-year-old supply teacher had been starting a science lesson when he was attacked shortly after the start of the school day. Mr Uzomah is still in hospital, where his condition has been described as stable and non-life threatening.


He had been working as a supply teacher at the school for just a few weeks, with fellow staff describing him as a “very nice, reliable, bubbly guy”.


West Yorkshire Police have asked the public to stop speculating about the suspect’s identity and warned against naming him on social media.
