The budget airline said the fee covered the “legitimate” cost of the “individually researched” letters containing details needed for insurance claims.
An email sent to one customer seen by the Daily Mail said: “We can certainly send you a letter to help you claim on your insurance, that’s not a problem.
“There is a small administration fee of 10GBP for the letter, which you should be able to claim back through your insurer.” Travellers wait at Marseille Provence airport, in Marignane, France, during a strike by air traffic controllers
A spokesperson for easyJet said the fee is charged to passengers who request a letter confirming a flight cancellation for insurance purposes.
“The administration charge for the letter is applied because each letter has to be individually researched and created for each passenger,” he added.
“This is a legitimate cost to help the insurance company process the claim. It will be covered as part of the claim so the customer should be reimbursed for this.”
Thousands of British holidaymakers were stranded in the 48-hour walk out by French air traffic controllers on 8 April.
EasyJet and other affected airlines provided customers with hotel accommodation and meals until their flights could be rearranged.
A three-day stoppage planned for 16 April was cancelled following negotiations over French the government’s planned restructure of air traffic control but another strike is due to go ahead for four days, starting on Wednesday.
