“Electronic Africa,” this Friday at Villain in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is the first night of the monthlong Red Bull Music Academy New York festival. This festival’s programming tends to expose secret histories of old music or uncover thriving, noncommercialized scenes of new music; true to form, this is not the organic, lilting African music of Putumayo stores and the college-theater circuit. DJ Spoko and Nozinja, both from South Africa, have created fast-paced versions of Kwaito house; Islam Chipsy, from Egypt, plays blistering, distorted electro chaabi, using his fists to make tone clusters on his electronic keyboard over rhythm tracks; Titica, a popular transgender Angolan singer and dancer, performs the rap-techno style called kuduro. You’ll get an education. (Villain, 50 North Third Street, Brooklyn; Friday, 9 p.m.; tickets $20; redbullmusicacademy.com)
