He used to be a co-recipient of the 1962 Nobel Prize for Chemistry and the founder and first chairman of the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, which produced a string of Nobel Prize winners.Perutz devoted a big a part of his long scientific profession to unraveling the molecular construction and function of hemoglobin, the protein of red blood cells. In this work he made pioneering use of x-ray crystallography.
