Philip Showalter Hench

American physician who with Edward C. Kendall in 1948 efficiently applied an adrenal hormone ( cortisone) in the remedy of rheumatoid arthritis. With Kendall and Tadeus Reichstein ofSwitzerland, Hench obtained the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1950 for discoveries regarding hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and biological results.
